Why You Ned to Buy Panda 150Mbps Wireless N 2 4GHz Adapter
The product was easy to install - my computer still runs on windows xp. Once I plugged the adaptor, my system recognized it and asked me to pop in the Cd which I did - but it was not able to find any drivers on its own. That is because the drivers are packaged into an installation file. SO instead I went on CD and opened the windows folder and installed the file - and voila it was all good.
Worked great - it said it connected to my network at 72.2 mbps rather than 130 mbps typical for internal adaptors from intel - but who knows if they really are 130 anyways.. it worked great out of box - installation took les than 5 minutes.
Also one more thing - please select microsoft wireless zero config (for xp anyways) and not the panda software - the panda software wasn;t all that easy to use.
Overall great product - small little quirks in installation but works great.
Works very well!!!
BalasHapusWindows XP: Works!!!(Bought it specifically for it)
Ubuntu 9.10: Works only G not N. Also, you have to blacklist in order for it to work.
Ubuntu 10.04: Didn't work.
I bought six of these and, I must say, they all work fantastically. I lead a computer security group of college and graduate students and required a wireless card that works with linux (specifically Backtrack) and with additional "modes".
BalasHapusFor those non-technical people: This is a GREAT wireless adapter that is worth three times the price that it is being sold for! I have a Linksys AE1000 (which was more expensive when I bought it...about $70) and this adapter works a lot better (although it is only 2.5 GHz, which is fine for most people).
For those technical people: This wireless adapter is based on Ralink RT3070 chipset and works with Linux kernels (>3.0). It is fully supported in Backtrack 5 R2 (out of the box) and supports Monitor mode, Promiscuous mode, and Packet Injection. However, this chipset driver does not support the "Fragmentation Attack" on WEP networks (through aireplay-ng) (which would be nice if Panther One could figure out...hint hint...but its DEFINITELY not a deal breaker since it's a specific security exploit). As always, if you are interested in computer security, be ethical and don't do something stupid. I'm only putting this information in the review because I wish other technical people would.

The wifi USB dongle was recognized immediately when I plugged it in. I am using it on a mac os x 10.6.6. For os x users you need to download the latest os x driver from ralink released on march 2011. This new driver is able to wake up from sleep and boot ups. Also, save your wifi password to your ralink profile window and under os x pref connection delete Ethernet and FireWire and just have your 8012 Wifi only. Once you see your ip for your wifi apply and lock it. You are set! For windows xp any driver version for windows works. You just need to save your wifi password under profile window to discriminate against any available wifi connections. Fidelity! Hehehe. Have fun.
BalasHapusI run ubuntu 11.04 and recently had to give up my wired network connection. Finding and configuring a fast wireless adapter has been a hassle. NGIS wrapper was buggy at best. I was forced to use and old linksys wireless g usb card. Vim was laggy and frustrating. I got these today, plugged it in to my USB, and after a couple minutes of searching it found my network!!!! Couldn't be happier, lets hope it keeps up...
BalasHapusI bought this for use with Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit. When I first inserted the USB drive, my computer was on and I was logged in; I was instantly able to select a wireless network instantly.
BalasHapusSignal quality through two walls and 25 feet is almost a constant 90%, and the bandwidth stays at around 150Mbps.
I simply plugged the device and the driver loaded automatically. I never used the CD. Hooked me right up in no time. So far, so good.
BalasHapusI have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
This USB WiFi adapter is great! It's a very cost efficient way of giving WiFi capabilities to desktop Macs. I'm also very impressed with the seller, Panther Networks. Within minutes of ordering I had received an email from them thanking me for the order and outlining my support options. The unit was shipped last Saturday and arrived on Monday! Wow! It didn't work out of the box because of incompatibilities with the included software. However, Panther Networks were extremely supportive and sent me different driver software to try. Everything works great now. I can connect to my home router and also to ad hoc networks. Highly recommended.
BalasHapusThis little jewel works "out of the box" running linux Ubuntu Natty 11.04 and Oneiric 11.10. No need to try the ndiswrapper or compile a driver the working driver is an integral part of the kernel. I just plugged it in and started up Natty and the adapter was found and installed. You Ubuntuers have got to try this little dude how can you go wrong at this price. Only have a g speed wireless router presently so I can not address the rated 150 speed. I also have a workable internal wireless chipset and just bought this one as a test. It Passed.. Try it..
