Hot Info: Kauto Star leaves Paul Nicholls to join Laura Collett in dressage

Record-breaking racehorse Kauto Star has left trainer Paul Nicholls to embark on a dressage career.
The two-times Cheltenham Gold Cup winner, who was officially retired in October, is joining European bronze medallist eventing rider Laura Collett.
Nicholls confirmed the news on Twitter,  saying: "We have delivered Kauto Star to his new home.
"I am sure he will have the best of everything. Good luck my friend, horse of a lifetime."
Kauto Star is the only horse to have regained the Cheltenham Gold Cup having lost it, but was pulled up when going for a third victory in March.
The 12-year-old made history by winning the King George VI Chase for a fifth time on Boxing Day last year.
Owner Clive Smith had previously indicated Kauto Star could switch to dressage, but he was not expected to leave Nicholls before Boxing Day, when he is due to lead the runners in the parade for the King George.
Nicholls later revealed he had asked Smith to remove Kauto Star from the yard following discussions with his team.
"On [Tuesday] morning I felt the time had finally come for me to take control of the situation, and to start making the decisions," he wrote in his betfair column.
"Now, I am fully aware that Kauto is Clive's horse and he can do as he wishes, even though I would personally have loved Clifford [Baker] to have looked after him for the rest of his years.
"But what upset me and my team here is when Clive announced that he had spoken to experts about the horse's future - but failed to consult and listen properly to the team that had looked after him here for the past nine years. That really upset us.
"So we had a team meeting here [on Tuesday] morning. And after listening to everybody involved - there were about six of us in the meeting - I rang up Clive, said I don't want to fall out, but we think it is in the best interests of everybody concerned to take Kauto to Yogi Breisner's Tuesday afternoon so that he could start his new career in the eventing field as soon as possible.
"We did this with the saddest of hearts. But I like to think with a lot of dignity, too. And, yes, there were plenty of tears too. He was a member of the family here at Ditcheat, and we will all miss him so much."
Smith said he was "extremely disappointed" in the reaction of Nicholls.
"When Paul rang me I was on the runway heading to New York and he dropped the bombshell," said Smith.
"Two weeks ago I had a coffee and a chat with Yogi [Breisner] and he suggested dressage and I was very impressed with the idea.
"Paul Nicholls has made out he didn't know anything about it, but I've kept him informed since May. We talked about eventing and he knew eventually he would be doing something away from the yard.
"We agreed he could stay at the yard until Boxing Day, but at Sandown on Saturday, I told him the dressage thing was coming about.
"We agreed about him leaving the yard and he even said Laura Collett could come and take away the horse. "
Collett, 22, is due to be assisted by Breisner, the Great Britain manager and coach who has overseen medal success at Olympic, World and European level.
"I feel very privileged and extremely honoured to have been asked to ride Kauto Star," Collett tweeted.
"I will be working closely with Yogi to give Kauto Star the best chance of a second career in dressage."

Hunter Bloxom Year in Review Hot Stuff

2012 The rookie season for Hunter Bloxom was, in his own words, "challenging and worth every obstacle...and penny". The young Texan fought financial hardships and numerous uncertainties for his RPMG Motorsports team.

Those difficulties would prove futile when he racked up a top-3 standing in the points race at RPM Speedway in Crandall, along with the Rookie of the Year honors. In addition to numerous top-10 and top-5 finishes, Hunter claimed a decisive and exciting victory in mid-July, which saw him start outside the top 10. Heartbreak would ensue shortly after the checkers fell when the car came up 1 lb short at the scales and the victory stripped.

With his head held high after the blow, Hunter battled for the win the following week and proved he would continue to persevere over the challenges between himself and total victory. To add to a promising start to the racing year, at the culmination of RPM Speedway's racing season in September, Hunter was hired by D&W Motorsports of Ovilla, Texas to drive their second entry for the remaining races throughout the region. This new opportunity would see Hunter tackle only the large purse events upcoming.

The first, a showdown at Mountain Creek Speedway in Grand Prarie, where Hunter posted a solid 8th in the maiden voyage for the fresh Eagle Chassis with Allard Power.
After an intensely focused week at the shop, rectifying the inconsistencies between himself and the car Hunter delivered 3 more solid top-10 finishes at Kennedale Speedway Park where every top Sprint Car team in the region made attendance.

The finale had Hunter demonstrate his mix of patience and determination with a thrilling run from 24th. 2013 brings high expectations in the sophomore season for the 26 year old with a calm demeanor, levying a focus on a more aggressive schedule in which to represent not only his name, but those of his loyal supporters: D&W Motorsports, Kisselburgh Law, Residential Property Management Group, Allard Racing Engines, SpeedMart of Washington, and Johnny Suggs Enterprises.

Free Music!

Why You Ned to Buy Pandora Media

Pandora Media

If you are familiar with Pandora, then I can tell you that this app is a good version of the web based Pandora for your phone. Once you log in, it syncs with your account and shows all of your stations.

Pandora allows you to listen to music for free - however, you cannot choose the specific song that you listen to. It works by asking you to specify either songs or artists that you like. Then, it creates a custom radio station tailored to those preferences. It learns your tastes when you vote on songs by indicating either a "thumbs up" or a "thumbs down." From those indications, the stations becomes more closely tailored to your preference.

You can have multiple radio stations, and you are allowed to skip several songs per hour (although it is not unlimited).

However, after you use up all of your skips, you can just change to a different station, and then you get more skips for that hour. You can also upgrade to "Pandora One" for a $36 yearly fee. That gives you unlimited listening with no ads (although, in my opinion, the ads in the free version are not too frequent or intrusive).

This is a good app and service for someone that has specific tastes in music, and is happy listening to a random selection of songs similar to those interests. If you are looking for something that allows you to pick the exact song you want to listen to, then this is not the app for you.

OpenWRT in 5 minutes

After I Buy TP LINK TL MR3020 Wireless Portable 150Mpbs

TP LINK TL MR3020 Wireless Portable 150Mpbs

I had ordered a Medialink wifi router just a week before I got this as a part of Amazon vine.

Now, I regret that I had to order the bulky expensive router while this mini gadget is working wonderfully. To begin with, I had low expectations about this device since I had a bad experience with a Linksys portable router which I had bought 5 years back. In order to be 100% sure that this router was as good as the medialink router I did a couple of tests

(1) Connect 2 laptops to the wifi router
(2) Connected 2 iphones to the wifie router
(3) Tested download and upload speeds from a 10' distance
(4) Tested download and upload speeds from a 20' distance across 3 walls

What I noticed is that there was practically no difference in the speed or performance between the medialink wifi router and this mini wonder.

The only caveat is that this one does not have any additional LAN/Ethernet/RJ-45 ports if you want to connect a vonage/ooma or any other IP Phone.

But the biggest Plus point of this router is that this one has 3G connector which means you can connect your 3G dongle and get wifi anywhere including your car.

The Power plug for this router is designed in a way that it can be plugged into your car adapter (via USB)

Overall - a very versatile (3G + LAN), compact router which can beat any expensive router in price and performance.

I Love It!

After I Buy Roku XD Streaming Player 1080p

Roku XD Streaming Player 1080p

I had some initial problems with the set-up that were solved by a new firmware release (this happens automatically), since then this little guy has done the job perfectly. The main reason I bought this was because I wanted 5.1 surround sound from Netflix which is only offered on the Roku 2 not the Roku 1. The Roku 2 also supports closed captioning on Netflix (again this was not possible on the Roku 1.) This one is even smaller than the original Roku (about half the size.) It's downright tiny, about the size of a hockey puck. This particular model does not come with an wired internet connection, USB, or an optical sound out connection, so if you really have to have those don't buy this one. I believe the top end model has a wired connection and USB, but still no optical out. In my case, the HDMI output and wireless connection are working perfectly. For Netflix 5.1 surround sound you must go into the audio and video options after selecting the movie and choose 5.1. Not all movies have this option. Also, your home theater receiver must support Dolby Digital PLUS (DD+). Some older receivers do not have DD+ only DD, so be careful. For Amazon movies you only need DD and that was supported even by the Roku 1.

I still need to warn everyone that the prices for streaming media are just about bound to increase as the content providers start to get their teeth into Netflix, Amazon and the other internet streaming companies. So, while this is great bargain now, and will probably pay for itself in 2 - 3 months vs. cable or satellite I wouldn't count on the party lasting for more than a couple more years.

basic, clear book with tips

Why You Ned to Buy My Google Chromebook My ebook

My Google Chromebook My ebook

In February, I received and reviewed the Epson WorkForce 845 Wireless All-in-One Color Inkjet Printer, Copier, Scanner, Fax, iOS/Tablet/Smartphone/AirPrint Compatible (C11CB92201), a great printer. I received and am now reviewing the Epson WorkForce WF-3540 Wireless All-in-One Color Inkjet Printer, Copier, Scanner, 2-Sided Duplex, ADF, Fax. Prints from Tablet/Smartphone. AirPrint Compatible (C11CC31201), another great printer which incidentally also uses the 126 or higher capacity 127 series Epson ink cartridges. If you purchase this printer, as of today, it's not listed in the ink cartridge finder at Amazon. I'm confident that will be corrected shortly as more units are sold. As much as I liked the WF 845, I am in love with the new WF 3540, and not only because it's younger, but because it was up and running in a matter of minutes without a single glitch. Both printers are fast, hold 500 sheets of paper, and produce fine copies as well as printed sheets, but this one is perfect, even using a Mac. Epson Connect allows me to print and scan from anywhere, and I can email print directly to this printer from anywhere using its own personal email address! I've never had such ease in setting up and operating a wireless printer as this one. As outdated as Faxing is to many, I do have the need to Fax on occasion, and this is equally as easy to set up and operate. The screen is appealing, intuitive, bright, and the machine saves energy when not being used. Enclosed in the package is a phone cord and power cord, but if you intend to go wired, you'll need to supply your own USB cable. I set mine up without attaching a USB cable, yay! Being able to do 2-sided duplex printing from this inkjet printer is beyond great, and It' really quick speedy without being very noisy. My little Canon is actually noisier and definitely much slower, although it is very small and produces a beautiful photo print. This is a top notch printer for a home office, school, small business, home schooler, or anyone who has the space for a printer of this size. The cost of ink is lower, per page, than my Canon printer, and I buy genuine Epson ink cartridges because I've had awful experiences in the past with two printers using non original manufacturers cartridges or refilling with ink. Great printer.

Solid Powerline Adapter

After I Buy Powerline Gigabit Wall plug Adapter PLA4225

Powerline Gigabit Wall plug Adapter PLA4225

I'm going to try and add on to the other reviews of this product and try not to repeat. Yes, this is about easy as easy can get to set up. Plug in, and it just works. Great for average joes but what I really want to talk about it PERFORMANCE. I recently bought a 2011 LED TV and although this TV is the flagship product and has built in WIFI, the WIFI performance is abysmal. It could be because of my WAP is on the other side of the house from the TV but even if it was right beside it, WIFI couldn't get the performance of what I intend to do with this TV. I want to stream uncompressed Blu-Rays to the TV. For that, you need hardwire for gigabit ethernet or you need this device!

First off, you're not going to get 500Mbps. Best scenario you will get is 100Mbps which is actually what I'm getting. Now one could argue what you're actually getting is 200Mbps (100 xmit, 100 recv) but 500Mbps is no where in sight. One review said you need 50Mbps to stream bluray and you should be able (barring any crazy wiring, be able to get that).

The first thing you need to understand is you need to 'play' with it and try different outlets. Load the utility on your computer to get your xmit/recv speeds. Then you need to determine which outlet gives you the best performance. The first outlet I plugged my powerline adapter into is the same one that feeds my TV, and also powers my PS3 and cable box. I was in the 60Mbps which turned the indicator yellow which happens when you're below 80Mbps. It did this in either the top outlet or the bottom. Since my entertainment center is in a corner, I tried the outlet on the other side. Voila! In the botton socket I was getting 100Mbps and the top socket I was getting 70-80. This proves that you definitely need to try both sockets and different outlets. If you don't, you could be sacrificing up to 40 Mbps without realizing it.

Now let's talk safety. I have kids and my kids (suspect many kids) love the little blinkin lights. This will not fit in a child-safety outlet cover. It's too wide. At least, not one I've found. If someone knows of a wider child-safety outlet cover, please reply to this. I wish I had a outlet directly behind my entertainment center but I don't. This forces me to use a extension cord which I know you're not suppose to do. The one I'm actually using is a true extension cord rather than power strip. This cost me maybe 2 dollars. I was thinking of seeing if I could find a even shorter thicker gauge wire but I don't know enough to actually understand if that would impede the powerline signal or help it. In the end, I DO NOT see much of a xmit/recv transfer rate difference with a extension cord that I do straight into the wall. If I see one, it may be 5-7 Mbps. So go ahead, sacrifice that so that your kids don't rip out the box out of the wall or break the ethernet connectors. The key is to move it around and find the best performing outlet for YOU.

I can't find many shortcomings of this product. Maybe they could design a power cord for this device so you don't have plug it straight into the wall. One that's tested by them not to impede the signal. That's really all I can think of to improve upon this product.

I'm keeping my set and I already got more on the way to increase the size of my powerline network.

Great Deals Of Marquis Tablet MP977 9 Inch Laptop

Marquis Tablet MP977 9 Inch Laptop

I love this tablet ! It does everything I need it to do and it's extremely affordable. The screen looks great, it's fast and the touch sensitivity is almost as good as the more expensive tablets. The only thing everyone should know is that the 30 pin connector is proprietary, so you can't use the chargers and/or adapters that the other 30 pin tablets use (like the older Apple products). Customer service with this company is great and I'll be ordering a back up 30 pin USB transfer/charger cable direct from this manufacturer.

Adobe Flash is available for this product directly from the manufacturers web page and while I haven't tested it, it did download and install without a problem.

This is great product, I doubt anyone will be disappointed, unless you're expecting it to be a direct replacement for one of the more expensive tablets.

A review of the new $ 249 Google Chrome Book

Google has introduced a new portable computer - they call it the perfect additional computer - and I see it as a paradigm shift in the role of a portable computing device.

The new Samsung Chrome Book has an 11.6-inch full color display. It weights 2.42 lbs and is .7 inches thin. It has a battery life of over 6.5 hours and runs on a Samsung Dual processor with 100 GB of online Google Drive space. It features a web cam with USB and HDMI ports and is Bluetooth compatible. It runs the Chrome OS, which means it has Google apps built in, and is priced at $249.

I think it's one of the most remarkable product introductions I've seen in my 35 years working in the PC industry.

This new Chrome Book re-defines what a portable computer can do and how it can be used, and is completely based on the concept of Cloud Computing . It works right out of the box, has no moving parts, and has built-in anti-virus protection.

Google has created a complete infrastructure for cloud computing; Google Chrome browser for surfing the web, Google email, online google docs application software compatible with MS Office apps, google drive to store whatever documents you want in the cloud, free downloadable apps such as google voice for phone calls and video conferencing with webcam, and dozens of other applications. And of course the Google Search Engine. All the software you need is in the Google Cloud.

I've had 5 portable computers over the years and I bought each one to be an additional computer to my office computers. But now you don't need a bulky expensive laptop computer with a big hard disk and Microsoft Office installed on it.

I had also bought an IPad as a possible new portable computing device. Trying to use my Ipad for email and type on the glass was maddening. I couldn't get it to print as I didn't have an Apple Airprint compatible printer, and I was shocked to learn that I could only buy music and media through Apple Itunes.

I could easily print to any of my printers with the Chrome Book, it has a great real keyboard, and I can buy anything from anywhere - Amazon or whatever vendor I can get the best prices from.
Placed side by side, The Macbook Air and The Google Chrome Book look almost like twins in design, keyboard and screen size.

With the Chrome Book, I can surf the web, watch Youtube videos, play games, check my email, video chat, make free phone calls, and If I want to create a letter or a spreadsheet I just use Google docs and I can store them online in Google drive. If there are files on my main computers I want to be able to access with my Chrome Book, I can upload those files to my online Google drive, and be able to access and edit them.

The new Samsung Chrome Book defines the new world of Cloud Computing and provides virtually everyone easy access to this world at an astoundingly low price. I also feel that many people could use this as their only computing device.

Why You Ned to Buy Edimax Wireless Nano USB Adapter

Edimax Wireless Nano USB Adapter

This review is for people using Linux. I installed this in an old xp comp that i dual boot with vectorlinux 7.0. The cd wouldn't open in linux. I managed to get it to open in XP but I ended up downloading the new driver from realtek (RTL8192CU driver). Vector automatically loads an older version named "rtl8192cu". You have to remove this and blacklist it in the file blacklist.conf so it doesn't get reloaded at boot. Then open the zip file and extract the source folder for the driver. Compile the driver. Here's the first place where i got stuck. "ERROR No rule to make target `modules'. Stop" In order to make the driver you need to have your "kernel sources" installed on your system or you will get this error. So install the package from the repository if you dont have it. Also, Create a symbolic link to point to the right directory if the make file is looking somewhere else than where the kernel source is.So finally installed. Second place got stuck was because i have an Access Point extender router. Basically a daisy chained second router to extend the range the first. The problem was the driver saw both access points and i believe it was trying to connect to both at the same time even though they have different channels. The error said either bad password or no ip assigned. Workaround this by setting the password for only one of the access points (closest one) in the network settings manager. There you have it. I hope this saves someone a lot of time. I did a lot of research on message boards and reference books and such to figure all this out but 100% connectivity through a brickwall is freaking awesome and well worth it. Also i learned a great deal about linux through this which I'm quite alright with.

Wilson is awesome

Why You Ned to Buy Wilson Electronics Signal Booster Single

Wilson Electronics Signal Booster Single

We spend 4 to 5 months of the year travelling the US in our motorhome and have been using Virgin Mobile Broadband (Sprint network) with their mobile hotspot MIFI 2200 for our internet provider. In some locations we have good signal strength and internet speeds, in others it is almost as slow as dial up. We use Skype to stay in touch with family and friends but had frequent dropped calls and poor audio quality when using the mifi and were never able make Skype video calls.

I researched signal boosters and contacted Wilson Electronics, who recommended the Sleek. It arrived 2 days ago, we are in Winterhaven, Ca (close to Yuma) and we were receiving 5 bars on our service with acceptable internet speed. When we put the Mifi in the booster our internet speeds increased substantially and we were able to make Skype video calls with no dropouts and excellent video quality.

Although the sleek is designed for use in cars with the antenna mounted on the roof, I had read in reviews that other RV users placed the antenna on a metal surface inside their RV and it worked well. I am using a 7" Stainless steel saucepan lid as the ground plate base and placed it near a window, with the Sleek device plugged into a DC outlet on the dash. This appears to be working well, but I will be ordering the indoor kit with an AC plug and window mounting for the antenna to tidy up our installation a bit.

I can highly recommend this little device, it is certainly worth the price I paid.

The Yamaha A-S500 has restored my joy in listening. I started out building my own Dynakit stereo equipment in the '60s but had tried to "modernize" the last few years. Two different consumer-grade AV receivers had left me feeling frustrated listening to music. The digital conveniences were great (such as switching all the HDMI sources, etc.), but the audio sections were just plain anemic. The highs were missing in action and the lows had no guts (unless I used a good quality powered sub I have - and even then, there was a hole between the super-lows and the mid-bass). In addition, there were no loudness controls on either AV receiver, making low volume listening rather lackluster. I had even tried replacing my large, '70s vintage floor-standing speakers thinking that they might be aging or out of date. WRONG! All along, the problem was with the low-current power supplies and digital over-processing in the AV receivers. Swapping the A-S500 for the most recent AV receiver brought the excitement of hi-fi listening back into my living room. Even my (slightly) aging ears can hear the highs again and the lows will "tickle your innards." Clarity is back and I now remember what dynamic range is. The response throughout the frequency range is smooth without coloration. It's hard to explain how pleased I am with the A-S500.

Polk rocks

Days After I Buy This Polk Audio Wireless Surround Sound

Polk Audio Wireless Surround Sound

I just received my F/X last week as an anniversary gift and have a few pointers. And to be clear wired speakers IS the better choice for true audio experience.

First thing I noticed when I pulled the unit out was how well made it is. I expected a "lighter" unit but it is heavy and well made. Also the instructions are a bit outdated and requires some common sense. Cables that came with the speakers are okay nothing major, I used some of my leftover speaker wires (12 gauge). Now when all was plugged in and powered on I was impressed how it all came together. Transmitter paired with the speaker in a flash. Did not need to sync manually.

Now for the sound, it sounds great. I was taken by surprise the clarity of the sound and how "broad" it was. I tested in several markets; console gaming, HD sporting events, music, HD channels and HD movies all 5.1 to 7.1. All sounded great no popping sound or "humming". Even when my receiver is off I don't get distortion or sound from the speakers. Also good to mention I have WIFI in the area with laptop and cell phones and no interruptions at the moment.

My overall view of the unit is great, I've been eyeing this for a long time and read everyone's review. Seems to be a hit or miss with the hardware. I'm just glad I'm able to get my surround sound and more importantly approval from the wife.

Super Dock for a mouse and keyboard... if you can get one...

Days After I Buy This Samsung Galaxy Note Smart Docking

Samsung Galaxy Note Smart Docking

This Smart Dock can do it all. It lets me access my files on my external hard drive, it lets me output my phone so my television, while putting the sound through my separate speakers, and use a keyboard and mouse like it was a regular laptop. There isn't much to say about this product because it really speaks for itself.
The white multimedia hub is very slick looking, and easily can fit off to the side of a television or desk without taking up any extra space. I really enjoy using this to stream netflix from my phone to my television. It is also great to use for writing papers. I tried this out by starting a paper on my laptop on evernote, but accidently left my laptop at my girlfriends place. So I decided to plug in my keyboard and mouse and continue writing my paper on my television by outputting my evernote app to the tv. It worked great!

Overall, this product does everything you can imagine. You can access your external hard drives quickly, you can output your display to the television, charge your phone, plug in external speakers, keyboard, mouse and I'm sure many other things! I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a high end multimedia dock.

Why You Ned to Buy Panda 150Mbps Wireless N 2 4GHz Adapter

Panda 150Mbps Wireless N 2 4GHz Adapter

The product was easy to install - my computer still runs on windows xp. Once I plugged the adaptor, my system recognized it and asked me to pop in the Cd which I did - but it was not able to find any drivers on its own. That is because the drivers are packaged into an installation file. SO instead I went on CD and opened the windows folder and installed the file - and voila it was all good.

Worked great - it said it connected to my network at 72.2 mbps rather than 130 mbps typical for internal adaptors from intel - but who knows if they really are 130 anyways.. it worked great out of box - installation took les than 5 minutes.

Also one more thing - please select microsoft wireless zero config (for xp anyways) and not the panda software - the panda software wasn;t all that easy to use.

Overall great product - small little quirks in installation but works great.

Best LDS app available!

Days After I Buy This Church Jesus Christ Latter day Saints

Church Jesus Christ Latter day Saints

Most scriptures made for Kindle are almost useless since it is impossible to quickly and easily flip around to where you need to go for study, cross-references, and topical reading. This app changes all that. With quick and simple access to any book, chapter or verse, and live links to footnotes, and cross-references, it becomes a fully functioning reading and study experience leaving nothing out. It even highlights the verses linked to for you, and returning to the previous page is a simple touch of the back button. I love having not only the scriptures, but all the conference talks, manuals, music, and various other church materials so quickly available. The app allows you to download only what you want so there is no hogging of precious space or recources. Lightening quick response and easy to read and adjust to your preferences. I love it!

Wonderful Bluetooth

After I Buy Accessorise Portable Bluetooth Wireless Speaker

Accessorise Portable Bluetooth Wireless Speaker

I have tried a couple of these mini speakers, but this is my first Bluetooth connected one. They all seem to have similar sound quality... way more clarity and volume than a phone or tablet, but nothing like a $100+ Jawbone JAMBOX or similar product. As far as acoustics, this speaker is exactly what I had expected. Pairing is quick and easy, and now that my Nexus 7 has the 4.2.2 update, spotty playback is nonexistent. No problems with my Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone (CyanogenMod)either.

I have used this on numerous solo boarding/biking/hiking days. I just throw it in my backpack or cargo pocket and jam. Needless to say, it has taken a couple of hits, but to my surprise it has survived them all. It is also great for practical jokes. One of my personal favorites is to hide it in the faculty room refrigerator during lunch and play cat meow ringtones.

Great Stuff

After I Buy Mediabridge Computer Networking Cat5e Ethernet

Mediabridge Computer Networking Cat5e Ethernet

The computer replaced our 6 year old Dell, so there's a huge difference in speed and functionality. Anything would have been an improvement, but we are happy with this one. Just to pass on the information....there is a button on the front that should open the 'Expansion Bay' door. It doesn't. The first time we pushed it, it got stuck so we assumed that it was broken. It felt like it wasn't connected to anything. HP India was baffled and had never heard of a problem like this so we started the return process, with great aggravation, having spent multiple hours moving stuff onto the computer and getting it set up. When the new one arrived, it had the same problem. The button didn't work. After a little research, we felt a quite foolish, finding that HP no longer uses the Expansion Bay, but continues to use the case, so the door isn't supposed to open and the button is indeed non-functional--and their support staff doesn't seem to have a clue. Oh well....it works and we didn't have to start over, but we are out another $20 for shipping. Lesson learned. May it spare you the hassle!

I love this case!

After I Buy Pong iPad 5 positions Leather like Case

Pong iPad 5 positions Leather like Case

I got to admit, I was expecting not to like this case, and was a little worried because I like to hold case in my lap or in book fashion and only review (on the less expensive no 4g version) didn't address this nor do any of the photos or YouTube videos. Well it works fine in book fashion, and the folding front cover is very good in landscape or vertical even on my lap (that surprised me). If you turn your iPad upside down (for what reason I have no idea) the case cover will flop loose. But in normal position it holds secure and activates on/off feature flawlessly. This case is very light weight around 10oz and very slim profile appx 9/16" thick with iPad installed. The New iPad slides into the back like it was born there, with all the correct holes/cutouts lining up just dandy. The cover is more leather like than 90% of the so called leather cases advertised and the back has a nice feel to it as well. I didn't notice any offensive smells like you get from pu leather and other faux leathers I've come across. Inside is a soft felt like lining that looks, feels, appears quality. I haven't tried the 4g or 3g on it yet, but I do notice it is faster than before while down loading using WI-FI. I'll post an update later when I give the cellular a try. So far it's recommended 5 stars from me. This case is very well built using nice quality materials.

Update: There is a very noticeable difference in download speed with this case in a hotel using their wi-fi connection we're staying in compared to my other leather case. I'm sold.

This is an awesome music app! I downloaded the free trial app and was using it so much I purchased the premium service within a week. I love it. I use it with my MacBook Pro, my Kindle Fire and my Iphone 3GS. It works great on all of them. There is such a huge collection of music you can access that you will be exploring many new artists and digging deep into the discographies of your favorite artists for many, many hours, days and weeks. One of my favorite bands is The Rolling Stones and I found such a deep collection that I have been spending many hours listening to alternate cuts and recordings that I haven't ever heard before. Amazing! Do yourself a favor and give this app and service a try. An the best thing is that the premium service is free for 30 days!

JVC KW AV50 Touchscreen Receiver functional

I bought my original kindle fire right after the first one was announced. So about a year and a half ago, i think.

I love it and still use it frequently. It is perfect for travelling. I download video content before heading to the airport and I can watch it with my headphones to tune out the noise on the plane. I turn off wifi on the plane, to extend the battery life.

I have been tempted to check out the 4G/LTE version that came out, but am really very content with just wifi. the 8GB capacity works fine for me. I've never had issues with running out of space. I mainly use it for games, a couple books, and videos, which I delete from the device after watching. I can always re-download them from my video library if i want to get them back.

overall, i love it.

Daughter loves it

Why You Ned to Buy 7 Inch Android Jelly Bean DDR3

7 Inch Android Jelly Bean DDR3

Many of the reviews submitted for this latest Kindle are from very experienced users who have provided excellent detailed comparisons between this Paperwhite model and previous versions of the Kindle. Many also have experience with the iPad, Nook, and other devices, and have provided comparisons to those products as well.

My background with respect to this product is different. The Kindle Paperwhite is my first e-book reader or tablet type device. I have held off dipping my toe into the water of digital reading although I do some on my iPhone and I use my computer extensively. The Paperwhite sounded attractive enough to me that I decided to finally give the Kindle a try. I wanted to see if I would find this to be a good alternative to printed books (of which I have more than I want to admit), or simply for convenience. I ordered it immediately once the ordering process opened, so my Kindle was delivered to me earlier this week.

From this perspective I therefore offer the following:

The Kindle is physically quite small and very comfortable to hold. It has a nice black finish and feels good in the hand. The back surface is rubberized. Appearance is elegant. It is very similar in height and width (but not depth, it is much thinner) to a paperback book and the size has clearly been selected to be the best for a book reader. And as other reviewers have commented, it looks like Amazon has found the "sweet spot" for this kind of product because it is very comfortable to hold in the hand.

Setting up and beginning to use has been easy and troublefree. It powered up, located and sync'd to my home network immediately once password was supplied. Connection to the Kindle store was essentially automatic since the unit came pre-loaded with my profile.

Display is very nice. The text is completely readable in all lighting situations that I have tried so far, and from any angle. The backlighting is very effective and satisfactory. The backlighting is not needed in bright sunlight (obviously), but the Kindle does not seem to sense ambient light and adjust backlighting automatically, so if you use it outdoors then I think you need to remember to turn down the backlighting in order to save some battery life. (Or maybe the draw on the batteries from the LED's is so little that you don't need to worry about it). The whiteness of the display is greatest when the backlighting is at maximum. When it is turned to minimum then the screen is more of a cream color. Many of the comments to this version of the Kindle have focused on the pros and cons of this new backlighted display. I do not find the LED's at the bottom of the screen noticeable at all. If you tilt the Kindle and look for them, you can see them. The slight shadowing at the very bottom of the screen that results from the position of the LED lights is only visible in certain combinations of ambient lighting and backlighting and is not at all distracting to me. When I have looked for it, the very small area of shadowing seems to always be just below the last line of text in a book anyway so I don't feel that it is serious. It is appropriate that the backlighting is receiving a lot of attention on this new model, and it was a big part of the reason for my own purchase as well. To me, overall I give the backlighting a score of 95, recognizing that the technology will likely improve and a couple of years from now there will certainly be a new model without this minor artifact.

Linking to the Amazon store and purchasing new titles is astonishingly easy. I purchased the two Lee Child Kindle short novels (Second Son (Kindle Single), and Deep Down: A Jack Reacher Story), and they were practically on my Kindle before I completed the purchase. It took me a short time to figure out how to "borrow" Kindle books for free (as an Amazon Prime member), since it appears that you can only do that from the Kindle itself (duh). (At first since I'm so used to purchasing from Amazon on my computer, I thought I needed to buy the books for the Kindle that way. You can do it, except I don't think that you can do the "borrow for free" from your computer, you have to do that from the Kindle).

Navigating through the options available on the Kindle is easy, although for a new user some time to read through the user's guide (pre-loaded on the Kindle) is needed. Everything is easy to learn and the basic touch screen techniques needed in order to read books are easily picked up and become automatic very quickly. All is controlled via the touch screen - the only "hard" switch is on-off.

Using the Kindle to read a book is simple and intuitive. Touch the page (or swipe) and it turns to the next page. Touch the left side of the screen (or swipe in reverse) to go back one page. Touch the top of the screen to display the menu bar. Saves your last page when you pause reading. Options for highlighting words or portions of text; ability to select words and look up in dictionary or online; as well as other more sophisticated capabilities that I haven't yet explored.

I wanted a simple and inexpensive e-book reader. This Kindle Paperwhite has many capabilities beyond what I need and I'm sure that as I get used to it, I will find myself taking advantage of them from time to time (web browsing, for example). It does not have audio capability nor was I looking for that. This Kindle does exactly what I want, it works well, and is very elegant and well made.

I am very happy with my purchase and looking forward to many years of enjoyment.

(Update, 11/12/12: I agree with the other reviewers who do not like the personalized recommendations that automatically appear on the screen, and I am very happy to see that Amazon agrees and is planning an update to the software to make this optional at the users decision. That is a nice improvement and as always I'm very glad to see Amazon listening to user feedback and working to improve their products.)

Wonderful Value for Money

Why You Ned to Buy Netgear NeoTV Streaming Player NTV300SL

Netgear NeoTV Streaming Player NTV300SL

I don't have any previous experience with NeoTVs and I don't have a Roku etc. I have a Lenovo T420, Netflix and a decent internet connection; I also have multiple android devices than are DLNA servers.

I wanted to be able to use my laptop on my 720p TV from bed without a cable and not have a whole other computer (or Wii) connected to the TV just to watch some Netflix.

Purchasing:
The device shipped when it said it would, arrived with all the contents and I was pleasantly surprised with how small the device was.

Setup:
I plugged it in with the A/V cables as I forgot my 'spare' HDMI cable recently found a use. Plugged in the power and pulled the small tab out the remote; a few clicks later through a pretty easy setup and I was watching an episode on Netflix. For the WiDi (Intel Wireless Display) I had to setup the Widi drivers on my T420 and once that was done (no reboot necessary) I was able to connect. The keyboard on the remote works well and I used it for entering passwords for Netflix and my wireless router.

Use:
The quality is iffy but I'm not on HDMI, I can only imagine it improving. The quality of Netflix is great despite using A/V and the remote is great in for quick searches. The menus are a bit laggy, about 1-2 seconds to go 'home' and about 1/2-1s lag on the remote worst case but my cable box is awful in terms of lag so I find it very bearable :-). I also buy video content on the Play store which is available on Youtube so that is a pretty nice bonus. I haven't tried the DLNA client or the USB/MicroSD functionality so I can't speak to the quality of those functions.

Overall:
The menu could be more responsive and I know some laptops will give issues connecting but that wasn't my experience. I don't use the full breadth of services so as I expand it's nice to know the device does huluplus etc. The value in terms of services it covers, the small size at 70USD is great.

Biggest plus: Number of features crammed into a small box for $70.
Biggest minus: Lag.

Canon Products MX922 Wireless Printer

Bought this Canon PIXMA MX922 from Amazon to replace a MP980 that decided to no longer feed paper from the bottom tray. Ordered it on the 19th and received it yesterday the 21st. Could not believe the fast arrival. This will be used with a new Dell XPS 8500 running Windows 8. Unpacked the unit right after arrival and started the set-up today. It took about 30 minutes and had no problem with it. Have not received the ink cartridges that I ordered Wednesday (Which are pretty pricey so do some looking around) so I cannot say how well it operates except for a couple prints I just made. Since the only inks I have now are the set-up ones supplied with the printer I cannot do much. At this time I would say I am pleased with this unit. The price was very good by a long wayCanon Office Products MX922 Wireless Color Photo Printer with Scanner, Copier and Fax compared to other sellers of this same unit. It is a little larger than my MP980 which was large to begin with. Very well packed and although there was a small dent in the box it was in no way harmed as far as I can tell. I will update this if I run into any problems after I start using it.

Fantastic value-for-money on a gaming PC

Great Deals Of CybertronPC GM2222D 5150 Escape Gaming

CybertronPC GM2222D 5150 Escape Gaming

I ordered this PC as a Christmas present for my 12 yr old son. He loves to game and is really starting to get into it. I thought this would be a great starter gaming PC. The PC was shipped asap and delivered in perfect condition as is typical for Amazon Prime. On Christmas day I set it up in about 20 minutes and my son was in heaven! The speed was so much better than his previous PC and the graphics were fantastic on his new ASUS 24" HD monitor. He loaded up all his favorite games - Minecraft, Civilization V, Age of Empires III etc. and disappeared for 6 hours. He had a blast and the PC delivered flawlessly.

The following day was a different story - at about 4 PM EST the PC just died. It would not power up. I immediately called CybertronPC and spoke to Red in tech support. Red explained to me that they had received a bad batch of power supplies and offered me a couple of options to fix the issue. I opted to have them send me a new PC but that would take the approval of a manager. I was put on the phone with Lee Castor who expressed to me his apologies and told me they were out of stock on the 5150 that I had purchased but he had a couple of ideas for a possible solution and would call me back in 15 minutes. Sure enough my phone rang 15 minutes later and as it was closing time he would call me back in the morning. This was now Wednesday at 6:00 PM EST.

At 10 am on Thursday Lee calls me and lets me know they were able to grab a machine for me from some previously allocated stock. Not only that but they upgraded the power supply to 650 watts from 400 and the new machine was now Windows 8. To top it all off Lee had the machine shipped that day via UPS Next Day Air. In all my years of dealing with Tech companies I have NEVER had such outstanding service. These folks were truly compassionate and understood that I had a very unhappy 12 yr old on my hands and they really wanted to help.

Today is Friday the 28th and my new machine arrived as promised and all is well in the world. I will be buying many more machines from Lee Castor and his team at CybertronPC in the future. Great job guys - thank you for everything!

Days After I Buy This Lenovo 59346799 A2107 7 Inch Tablet

Lenovo 59346799 A2107 7 Inch Tablet

We like the Kindle but wanted something about the same size and slightly more general purpose. Paying way north of $300 to Apple just to browse, shop and listen to online music seemed not a good value. We are more of Kindle readers, Web Shoppers and not much of the "Apps" folks.

Works well, been a week so far, the Android and Google marketplaces take some navigating and getting used to. Battery life seems fine. Cameras are good. Music is decent.

Display - if you have an IPad, you may find it slightly less in resolution, but we haven't tried to change it. We have both, but the kids understand the price and value points.

Bottomline: We were torn between Kindle Fire, Kindle Fire HD and this, and went with this since we wanted more flexibility and have had great experiences with Lenovo in the past.

Why You Ned to Buy Cisco Linksys Refurbished Wireless N Extender

Cisco Linksys Refurbished Wireless N Extender

I had hear a lot of horror stories about extenders and repeater that didn't work. I was looking for a solution that would make my life easy and avoid the arduous task of running wire from one end of my house to the other. This little gizmo has been a life saver. I am getting full signal strength throughout my house in areas that prior to installing this were just one bar areas at times and others dead spots.

My wife works from home some days and uses our home office which happens to be at the opposite end of the house where I keep my router. She regularly engages in meetings and international video conferences that last, in some cases, hours. This device just facilitates that. I get no more complaints from her about signal drops or disconnected sessions. I own the Belkin N-600 and it works beautifully with this extender. I now have the same download speeds on wireless computers going through the extender as I have on the ones going through the router wirelessly also.

I own a Drobo 5N and that is strictly an ethernet/network storage system. No USB, Firewire or SATA. I am forced to go through ethernet or wifi to store data on it. This extender works great with it. I have every computer in the house backing up over the air to this NAS (Networked Area Storage) and the extender multiplies my network signal with no hickups.

I also store all our movies and basically, our entire iTunes library with movies, podcasts, music, etc. We use Apple TV's through out the house and the rooms that this extender services now have uninterrupted streaming with the native sound and video quality.

Oh, did I mention that it supports b/g and n. I have two networks in my house. I use the N network for big data transfers and video and the b/g for low bandwidth stuff like: FaceBook, internet surfing, etc.

I am very pleased with the performance of this extender. I have already recommended it and my father-in-law now owns one too.

Days After I Buy This Disney Channel Kindle Tablet Edition

Disney Channel Kindle Tablet Edition

This product is good as advertised. Everything worked outside of the box with the preloaded operating system. The only bad thing about it is the crappy OS it comes preloaded. I could install xubuntu afterwards with minimum installing effort, thanks to instructions here: [...] (everything but the bluetooth works with current version 12.10, and apparently bluetooth will be fixed on 13.04).

Look and feel: Its really nice, the whole black is good to avoid unnecessary flashyness, and its incredibly lightweight (comparable to carrying a book with a few hundred pages). The charger is not really heavy either.

Multimedia: was really good, good screen, good webcam, good mic. Speakers were of course not premium, but for me it was even a little better than macbook air's, so I'm guessing is top of the line for a slim computer. Even with heavily reduced brightness (20%) to increase battery time the screen is pretty clear (much better than other laptop's I've used that with 50% reduced brightness are already annoying to look at). I like that the glass of the screen seems to produce little or no reflection compared to other monitors I've tried.

Speed: This was great, with windows it booted and finsihed loading everything from complete shutdown in about 10 secodns, reduced to 2 or 3 with linux. Going to slepp and coming back from sleep mode is instantaneous in both OSs. All ports worked.

I/O flip: I'm only annoyed by it in a non-rational thought that its going to break. To this day it worked perfectly, it is kind of noisy when it opens/closes, but probably comparable to opening/closing a dvd player's tray, nothing serius.

Fans: Then fans can get noisy (more than with mac's ultrabook) but usually it only lasts for a minute or less and then goes back to being quite when heavy processing is over. I do not play games or do any other intense-processing stuff, so I do not know if such thing will make it noisier longer. But even when installing the processor usage went up to 90% several times and only at some specific points the fans were loud. Even less frequently it gets hot, but MUCH less than my previous HP HDX 16 laptop which was a huge computer with plenty of ventilation. Of course it would be nicer if the computer had constant temperature and no noise at all, but this works great for my taste. Take into account it got way better with linux on than the couple of hours I tried it with the preloaded windows system, which of course was to be expected due to windows' ridicuolously heavy usage of the processor just to load the start menu and stuff.

Battery was estimated at 6+ hours on windows and is lasting 4.5 hours with linux (which is supposed to have worse performance with power management).

Ports: HDMI works perfectly, USB is fast (cannot say about USB 3.0 because I haven't tried any device, but USB 2.0 flashdrives seem fast).

Keyboard and touchpad are good, multitouch works perfectly in both OSs. The keyboard is not as confortable as a bigger laptop's or a regular desktop keyboard, but I don't think its possible to do a lot better on a slim ultrabook. After only a week of using it I'm already confortable typing it for several hours at work and I think I would probably get completely used to it in a month or two (I still use my old laptop when I'm working from home to avoid packing/unpacking all the time).

Did not try thunderbolt port with either OS.

Overall: I'm pretty pleased so far, would recommend the laptop, especially to linux users which sometimes may have a hard time finding drivers and making everything work.

Life-Changing Gadget 2.0 Video Review!

After I Buy Fitbit Wireless Activity Sleep Tracker

Fitbit Wireless Activity Sleep Tracker

I bought two: one for myself and one as a gift. Both Fitbits are being used with the iPhone 4s via the free app which works perfectly (as well as syncing with desktops). Syncing with the phone is especially useful for extended travel away from your computer. My personal dashboard on the Fitbit website boast loads of info-graphics that help me stay motivated and shake me out of denial around how much activity really happens in a day. Tracking sleep has been insightful, too. I've used pedometers for years, and nothing comes close to this thing. Email support from the company has been prompt, and there is a large Fitbit community to help with questions if you just Google them. Sadly, at the time of this review, Amazon has this item back-ordered, but if you don't get it somewhere else it will be worth the wait. Highly recommended.

Getting More for Less

After I Buy LG 440G Prepaid Minutes Tracfone

LG 440G Prepaid Minutes Tracfone

I've had three tracfones in the last year and a half, always wanting to try something a little newer and nicer. The first, a Samsung 245g flip phone has a screen just too small to use for anything beyond short and simple texts. Next up was the LG840g. Nice touchscreen operation, but I found the onscreen keyboard a bit awkward, and felt like I needed to carry it a holster rather than my front pocket. The new LG440G is a good compromise. It is a bit larger, when closed, than the Samsung, but with a considerably larger and sharper screen, making texts and emails much easier to read. The 3g connection downloads emails fairly quickly so you don't burn a lot of minutes checking messages. Call quality is fine, and the signal strength is about average, meaning spotty in my home; just something I have to live with, I guess! All in all, I am very happy with my twenty dollar investment. The phone and the Tracfone prepaid costs fit my needs very well. I cannot see myself ever returning to a traditional carrier.

Great on all Apple devices!!!

Great Deals Of

Several reviews state you need a USB connection for scanning. That is only true for push scanning (where printer is remote from PC) where you scan at the printer and push the results to the PC. If you at the PC you invoke EPSON scanning software and you can do all your scanning wirelessly. In addition this software has three modes; home, office, professional. In pro mode you have lots of picture modification parms including dust removal and restoration like digital ice.

I have this epson and a canon laser AIO and this one is like a swiss army knife compared to the Canon which I use only now for fast BW printing..............highly recommended especially for Apple product and Chrome users who can print from Iphone/Ipad locally or from remote locations to the printer using google cloud print; you can use Epson email print also. The dual paper feed with photo paper in one and regular copy paper in the others is great feature too or any other kind of mixed print media. Fax also allows for color faxing.
